Lynn participated in shows, musicals, and competitions from age three through high school, studying dance, voice, violin, and artistic roller skating. In 2002, Lynn began performing as a mermaid and a living statue among other characters with FoxMoon Productions and she continues a partnership with the company. She attended the University of Central Oklahoma as a dance education major and participated in dinner theaters and showcases throughout her college career. In 2005, she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree at UCO with an emphasis on dance and business management.
Over the next two years, Lynn volunteered with a German themed Cabaret Dance Company, Kabaret Falschtanz. In 2007, she co-founded her first dance company and made the group’s first showgirl costumes. Lyra’s Muse Dance Company hosted annual shows in tap, jazz, and ballet while showgirls offered a unique approach. Winter Follies was the name of one show during this time.
In the early years, Lynn immersed herself in the local arts scene, forming working relationships with body painters, ceramists, musicians, and art show coordinators. In 2008, she worked as a showgirl for an Oklahoma Casino. In the following year she started the Oklahoma Showgirls, our state’s first showgirl company offering a variety of entertainment. In June of 2009, Lynn decided to open an adult dance studio after noticing a lack of options in the area.
In 2009, downtown Oklahoma City and Automobile Alley enjoyed several new trendy businesses, but the area was still thought by many as an unsafe place to be. To add to the difficulty, the country was in the middle of the recession when Lynn’s dance studio opened at North 10th Street and Broadway Avenue. Broadway Avenue was once the main street of downtown. Over a hundred years of parades, festivals, and events took place on the street.
Teaze Dance & Fitness, LLC opened in 2009. Teaze is the first and longest-running studio of its kind in our state. In an area saturated with treadmill gyms and yoga businesses, every class that Teaze offers is obscure. The studio offers group parties and workshops as well as pin-up photography. Teaze is home to performing dance companies including vertical acrobats and the Oklahoma Showgirls.
According to CNN Money, Oklahoma City is one of the ten fastest growing cities in the country and Lynn’s team have plans to bring the arts to the forefront to meet the growing needs. Today, Teaze Dance & Fitness sits at the gateway to downtown. The Automobile Alley district and downtown area in general are enjoying a revitalization we could have never imagined.
Lynn and her team have carved out a niche in our state for dancers to be hired for corporate events, fundraisers, holiday galas, and casinos. Many of the entertainers are from local universities. This company offers them an opportunity to obtain work in their field at fair wages. Previously, the only option was to move out of state to find work. Fair wages for dancers was unheard of in Oklahoma. Lynn hopes to educate the public about the vintage dance styles that are widely forgotten in today’s society. They can be fun on a social or professional level. She has formed several local clubs and some of them have over 250 participants. They include the Oklahoma Pin-Up Girls, Oklahoma Burlesque Revue, and Oklahoma Swing Dance Society.
Teaze Dance & Fitness and its unique offerings have been the focus of numerous publications and news segments. The Oklahoma Showgirls have been featured in several casino commercials over the years and have entertained at more than 20 casinos throughout the state. Several times a year, Lynn and her team produce shows at local venues and theatres. The largest of these shows is the Oklahoma Pole and Burlesque Expo. Showcase performers offer aerial, acrobatics, vaudeville, and cabaret as well as other art forms. The performers come from various groups in the area. Competitions take place as well with awards given for the Oklahoma Queen of Burlesque, Miss Pin-Up Oklahoma, and the Oklahoma Pole Championships.
In 2013,Teaze Dance & Fitness began offering shows with a live band, the Storyville Scoundrels. The Scoundrels offer swing and jazz along with a mix of other crooner music. The shows produced with this partnership of dancing to a live band offer audiences an opportunity to experience what nightclub entertainment would have been like 70 years ago. Audiences were delighted and attendance grew to over 200 patrons per show.
Several fitness and dance class partnerships have taken place between Teaze and the University of Central Oklahoma as well as Chesapeake Energy. Hoop Dance, Barre, Eras of Dance, and Eras of Hip Hop are included in the most recent courses taught by Teaze instructors. Now that Lynn’s business is established as the premiere studio of its kind in the area, her goals include booking more of the local entertainers to work upscale events. The majority of entertainers are hired from out of state because connections have not been made between event coordinators and talent. She believes that our city is ready for a big boost in the professional arts scene.
